Chew gum to relieve stress and reduce cortisol.
Chewing gum can calm your nerves and may even help you fight infections or weight gain.
Multiple studies have been conducted about chewing gum and its effect on stress. One study specifically measured levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Your body needs cortisol to act quickly in fight or flight situations. But having high cortisol levels all the time is harmful and may lead to weight gain and abnormalities in the immune response.
In this study about cortisol, test subjects performed stressful tasks, while chewing gum and then not chewing gum. The cortisol level in their saliva was lower when they chewed gum. So if you need a quick stress-reducer, popping some gum could help.
