Fight depression with fish oil.
There are a lot of ways to fight depression symptoms: therapy, meds, exercise and supplements. Fish oil may be another option for some people.
Fish oil has been known to lessen the risk of heart disease and may help with other conditions like asthma. There is some evidence it may help depression, too, either taken as supplements or by adding fish to your diet (in moderation).
Studies have shown improvement in mild to moderate depression when people took fish oil. Other studies have shown that depressed people have lower levels of the brain chemicals found in fish oil (EPA and DHA). But fish oil alone is not a treatment. Talk to your doctor and find what works for you—therapy, meds or some combination of them. Then add some fish or fish oil supplements to the mix.
