Getting ready for a hospital stay? Lay off alcohol a few days before.
If you’re getting ready to enter the hospital for surgery, you probably have a list of instructions of what to do or not to do. One instruction to pay close attention to: Stop drinking alcohol a few days before you go in.
You will have many restrictions during your recovery, and alcohol and smoking are probably tops on the list. Recovering from any surgery can be difficult, but if you are someone who drinks more than moderately, you don’t want to add serious alcohol withdrawal to your time healing from surgery.
So resist the urge of ‘liquid courage’ the day before surgery. Taper off earlier and stop several days before your admission. You want your body in the best shape it can be in to face surgery.
