Stop a nosebleed with a pinch and a popsicle.
Nosebleeds are annoying and messy. To stop one, pinching your nose for 10 minutes usually does the trick.
- Put your thumb and index finger at the bridge of your nose, then slide them most of the way down your nose (breathe through your mouth).
- Lean slightly forward so the blood runs out your nose, not down your throat.
- Hold this for up to 10 minutes or until the bleeding stops.
You can help stop the bleeding by sucking on a popsicle or ice cubes. Cooling the roof of your mouth helps constrict the blood vessels in your nose.
See a doctor if a nosebleed lasts for more than 30 minutes or you get them frequently for no obvious reason (like dry conditions). Persistent nosebleeds may indicate more serious medical problems.
