Stop a nosebleed with a pinch and a popsicle.

Nosebleeds are annoying and messy. To stop one, pinching your nose for 10 minutes usually does the trick.

  1. Put your thumb and index finger at the bridge of your nose, then slide them most of the way down your nose (breathe through your mouth).

  2. Lean slightly forward so the blood runs out your nose, not down your throat.

  3. Hold this for up to 10 minutes or until the bleeding stops.

You can help stop the bleeding by sucking on a popsicle or ice cubes. Cooling the roof of your mouth helps constrict the blood vessels in your nose.

See a doctor if a nosebleed lasts for more than 30 minutes or you get them frequently for no obvious reason (like dry conditions). Persistent nosebleeds may indicate more serious medical problems.
